We had read so many stories during our childhood and we still remember few of them. As there were something special in them, the stories with moral that had taught us many valuable life lessons. It will be great to narrate or read moral stories for kids that will impart a lot of benefits among the kids. Everything around us had changed a lot but we can’t deny the fact that the moral stories still have a great role in laying the foundation of a child’s life. A kid’s mind is clear and pious so we should give valuable inputs to them so that they should lead a well balanced life.

1) The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Once upon a time there lived a shepherd boy, who used to take flock of sheep of the whole village to a mountain to graze them. He used to stay there at the mountain top for the entire day and come back down in the evening.
One day he was feeling very bore, so he thought a plan to have fun. He started shouting, “Wolf ! Wolf, please help”. When villagers heard the shepherd’s voice, they rushed to the mountain top but they found no wolf. The boy laughed at their annoyed face. The villagers came down grumbling.
After few days, the boy thought of having fun again so he again shouted, “Wolf ! Wolf, please help”. The villagers again rushed to the mountain top to help the boy. But this time also they found no wolf and hence they got annoyed.
Few days later, the boy was sitting under a tree on the mountain top and the flock of sheep were grazing. Suddenly he saw a wolf was coming near the flock. He got scared and he started shouting, “Wolf ! Wolf, please help”. But this time the villagers ignored his voice and didn’t went to help the boy. As they don’t want to be fooled again. So the wolf killed many sheep of the shepherd as there were no one to help him.
Moral of the story : Liars are not believed even when they speak the truth.
2) The Golden Egg
Once upon a time, there lived a man who had a wonderful hen who used to lay a golden egg. Every day the hen laid a golden egg and the man used to sell the egg in the market and get a good value for that.
This way he was becoming pretty rich day by day. One day after selling the golden egg, he thought why not get all the eggs at a time so that he will become more rich in no time.
So the next morning the man went to the hen and killed it. And he was left with blood of the hen all over with no egg. And his greediness led him to lose his precious hen.
Moral of the story : Greediness can lead to great loss, One should remain satisfied with what one gets.
3) The Tortoise And The Hare
One day in the jungle, hare was making fun of tortoise for being slow. Tortoise got annoyed with the hare’s behavior and gave a challenge to hare to have a race with him. Hare thought it will be fun and so agreed to tortoise’s challenge.
On the day of race, hare was so confident that he swiftly moved a part and stopped there as he thought it will be too late for tortoise to reach there, So he planned to take rest for some time and then he felt asleep.
Meanwhile tortoise was moving slowly but steadily and he crossed the hare and reach the end point. And when hare woke up from his sleep he realized that he lost the race.
Moral of the story : Slow and steady wins the race.

4) The Monkey And The Crocodile
Once upon a time, there lived a monkey on an apple tree on the banks of a river. One day a crocodile reached the bank of the river and said to the monkey that he is very hungry. The generous monkey offered some fruits from the tree to the crocodile.
After that, the crocodile used to visit regularly the banks of the river and spend time with the monkey. Soon they became very good friends. The crocodile told his wife about his new friend but his wife was not at all happy with this friendship.
She became jealous and wanted to eat the flesh of the monkey. So she thought of a plan and told the crocodile that she is very ill. And the doctor told her to eat a monkey’s heart then only she can remain alive. The poor crocodile didn’t want to lose his good friend neither he can let his wife die.
So with a heavy heart, he went to the monkey and told him that his wife had invited him for dinner. Monkey accepted the invitation and sat on the crocodile’s back to reach the crocodile’s house. In the middle of the river, the crocodile started sinking, worried monkey asked him why he was sinking. Then the crocodile said that his wife is ill and she need to eat his heart to stay alive and asked him to forgive. But the monkey was very clever, quickly he replied that he would love to help him to save his wife but he had kept his heart back on the tree.
So the monkey told the crocodile that they should swim back to the banks of the river to bring his heart. And when crocodile and monkey reached on banks of the river, monkey quickly jumped up to the tree and said, ” You are a foolish crocodile, how someone can take out his heart and keep it somewhere”.
Moral of the story : Wise enemy is better than foolish friend and quick intelligence can save you from problems.
5) Elephants And Friends
Once upon a time, there lived an elephant. He was wandering in the forest to make new friends. He went to a monkey and asked him to be his friend. The monkey said to the elephant, “You are too big to be my friend, you cannot swing with me from branch to branch”.
The elephant met with a rabbit and asked him to be his friend. Then the rabbit said, ” You are too big to play with me in my burrow”. After a while, the elephant met with a frog and asked him to be his friend. The frog also said, ” You are too big to be my friend and you cannot jump like me”.
The next day, the elephant saw all the animals are were running in fear. So the elephant asked a bear what was happening. The bear said a tiger was attacking all animals.
The elephant wanted to save his friends and went to the tiger and said the tiger to leave his friends. The tiger didn’t listen to the elephant and told him to mind his own business. As there was no way left, the elephant kicked the tiger away and saved his friends from the tiger. Seeing this act of bravery of the elephant, the other animals said to the elephant, ” You are just the right size to be our friend”.
Moral of the story : Friends come in all shape and sizes.

6) Farmer And His Sons
Once upon a time there lived an old man in a village. He had four sons who always quarrel among themselves. The old man tried hard to make them understand that quarreling among themselves will make them weak. But none of his teachings worked.
One day, the old man fall ill, he called his four sons. And asked them to bring a bundle of sticks with them. When his four sons arrived with bundle of sticks, he told his elder son to tie them altogether. And asked them to break the bundle one by one. But all his sons failed to break the bundle of sticks.
Then the old man told them to untie the bundle and break each sticks separately. And this time his sons easily broke the sticks. Then the farmer explained them that if they stay together they will be the strongest and if they keep fighting among themselves, can be broken by anyone.
Moral of the story : United we stand, divided we fall.
7) The Milkman’s Dream
Once upon a time, there lived a milkman who used to sell milk to people of nearby villages. One day he got some extra money by selling extra milk to his customer. With that money, he bought a chick from the market and kept it in his home.
The next day, as he was carrying a milk can to deliver milk to his customer, he thought the chick he bought yesterday will grow into big and will lay eggs. Those many eggs would hatch and will lay more eggs. This way soon he will have a big poultry farm and he will become rich. As he was in his dreams, he didn’t notice a big stone on his path and he tripped on it.
As a result, he lost his balance, and all the milk split on the ground. Then he realized there is no use in daydreaming unless you act on it.
Moral of the story : Dream castles will be of no use.

8) The Story Of Two Frogs
Once upon a time, there were a group of frogs wandering in search of water. Suddenly two of them fell into a deep well. The two were trying to get out of the well but the other frogs in the group thought they couldn’t get out of such a deep well.
They started discouraging their effort and told the two frogs that there is no hope to get out of the well. One frog gave up and died in the well. The other frog keep on trying and suddenly he jumped so high that it came out of the well. All other frogs were surprised to see the frog out of the well, they wondered how it happened.
Actually, this frog was deaf, so he couldn’t hear the discouraging words of other frogs and he thought they are cheering him up and so he gave his best and so succeeded.
Moral of the story : Believe in yourself
9) The Fox And The Grapes
One day a fox was roaming in search of food. He reached a farmer’s vineyard where there were plenty of juicy grapes ready to pluck. Fox’s mouth filled with water, so tried to pluck them from the high branches. But he couldn’t reach that high, he tried to jump high but failed.
Again and again, he jumped but can’t reach those juicy grapes. After many failed attempts he sat on the ground and looked at the grapes and told himself, “I am sure the grapes are sour and not worth trying hard to get them”.
Moral of the story : It is not good to despise something that is not within the reach.
10) The Farmer And The Well
Once upon a time, a farmer bought a well from his neighbor. One day the farmer went to the well to take water for his farm, then his neighbor restricted him from using the well. The farmer became surprised and asked him the reason behind that.
The cunning neighbor said to the farmer,” You bought well from me, not the water, so you cannot use the water.” The farmer went to the king to find the solution for his case. King asked Birbal to help the farmer.
Birbal told the cunning neighbor that since he sold the well to the farmer so he is not supposed to store his things in the well. And if he is storing his water in the well then either he has to pay rent for that or have to take out the water immediately.
Then the neighbor realized that his shrewd trick will not work and he apologized to the farmer for his behavior.
Moral of the story : Do not try to cheat people, otherwise you have to pay for it.

I reference the boy who cried wolf with my daughter all the time. Each one of these stories and their lessons are so important for kids.
