Switching from one task to another task and thinking what is next thing to do, make us absent from the present moment. As a result we are less attentive in the present moment. Things can be done efficiently without being stressed too, just we should have the right approach towards them. It is not about being perfect but being mindful and there comes mindful parenting!!

Mindful parenting is all about being aware or leading the way of your consciousness towards your child’s action in the present time. It is not about staying positive all the time. Parenting can give you the feel of all the seasons. Some days it will be gloomy when nothing is done on time, your child is so cranky. But you can also experience sunny days when you check off all your to-do list, your kid finished meal on time without showing tantrums. How To Practice Mindful Parenting?

what is mindful parenting

It doesn’t require a major change to practice mindfulness, here are the simple ways you can start practicing :-

Analyze your moments of emotional triggers

Figure out the situations that cause your emotional outburst, when your emotions are triggered. And try not to judge the moment or rather reject it. Remind yourself that you can handle this peacefully and accept the situation. Once you learn to be aware of your feelings move on to the next step.

Pause and think deeply over the situation

The most demanding part of mindfulness parenting is to create a cool zone in the heat of the moment. And you can achieve this when you learn to pause. Pause for few moments, try to stop yourself from giving spontaneous reaction and think over the matter. The time you are giving yourself to think will cool you down and you can think in proper way without showing emotional outburst.

Think from your child’s perspective

Parents being on the stronger side of the relationship often forget to analyze a situation from a child’s view point. You should not come to conclusion without knowing your child’s point of view. It is obvious that your child will behave like a child but it is silly if you also behave like your child. So next time when you are angry just pause for few seconds and analyze the situation from your child’s perspective.

Be light-hearted

Sometimes it is better to not to take things so serious. We all are human beings and so our kids, hence no one is perfect and we make mistakes. Being a lighhearted help you to manage your negative emotions and thus create a healthy and positive atmosphere around you.

Set boundaries between love and discipline

Loving your child doesn’t mean we cannot teach them to be disciplined in life. Parents want to see their child happy, disciplined and organized in their life. Therefore it is very essential to set boundary between love and discipline. Communicate with your children, teach them to learn the difference between good and bad. And then discuss the rules and let them take the ownership of the rules.

I try to be more mindful, but it’s hard. I had a traumatic childhood and some of that carries over. I find myself yelling and then apologizing later. I’m trying to be more calm and understanding. It’s so hard as I tend to act without thinking.
