Everyone these days has millions of works to do and everyone is busy running after something. And in this race of accomplishing, we miss the present time that will never come again. I know there are many people like me in this trap of running endlessly from morning till night. Last night I was so exhausted and mentally tired that I sat and was thinking what am I doing? I am a stay-at-home mum and believe me the work never ends here. And I guess it is not only for stay-at-home people but also 9 to 5 working people too. Everyone is affected by this busy life. So in this post, I would like to remind myself and will try to motivate others to How To Slow Down and Enjoy Life.
What does it mean to slow down?
In simple phrase slow down mean moving slow. In this world of multitasking, where our brain switches from one task to another and is not able to focus on any single task, we lost the happiness of living life. Slowing down is an individual’s choice of coming to a slow pace from a fast track. The path where you can achieve a greater level of happiness.
Why do we need to slow down in life?
If you are busy every time, feeling like you can’t control your schedules, this indicates you need to slow down. If you don’t, then your brain will stop working efficiently and it will create difficulties for you.
Reasons to slow down in life are :-
- Get clarity
- Lower your stress level
- To be creative
- Live in the present time
- To make better decisions
- Enjoy your life
How to slow down and enjoy life
Now you know that we need to live a slow paced life to enjoy our life. So let’s know the simple ways to have a slow paced life.
- Set Priorities
Do less, don’t make yourself over-occupied, it only reduces your efficiency. Don’t get carried away by your to-do list. Set priorities by analyzing your current situation, what is most important to you in this situation. Focus on the important things and accomplish them. Learn to let go of the rest of the non-essential tasks!!
2. Live in the present
In a rush to live happy in the future that no one knows whether it will come or not we forget the present time. We miss all the happiness of the current time. It is always good to plan for the future but that doesn’t mean you will skip the present time for the future. Live in the moment, enjoy the time you are having, and remember it will never come back.
3. Unplug from technology
It is the irony of modern life that technology is invented to make our work faster but it keeps us busy all time. We have become the slaves of technology. Today it is very hard to find a person who spends leisure time without using technology. We should restrict ourselves from excess use of technology. An article by Samantha Brodsky in PopSugar has explained that we need to learn to manage our devices instead of being managed by them.
4. Find the pleasure around you
Don’t miss the present moment in the wait for the best moment that is yet to come. The secret to having a happy life is to find happiness and contentedness in every little thing around you.
5. Learn to say no
There is no harm in saying no to something or someone that is difficult for you to commit. We should learn to say no and should not be guilty of that. It is part of life, we can’t meet everybody’s expectations. So it is better to maintain your sanity and don’t go overboard.
6. Do Not Compare
Excessive indulging in social media forces us to compare our life with others. But this comparison is not for any good, it only leads to de-motivation and depression. Everyone has their own journey that is different from your life. Therefore you should have trust in yourself and believe that everything that happens in your life has a reason behind it.
7. Count your blessings
Never take anything for granted, this pandemic had taught us this lesson very well. Yes, appreciate every little thing you have around you. It is better to be grateful for everything you have today rather than complaining. And take time to reflect on yourself, it may be that you didn’t get everything but what you have maybe the other person doesn’t have that also.
8. Deep Breathing
When you feel rushed or too much busy, deep breathing is the best way to slow down. Deep breathing is one of the finest ways to calm your mind and it helps us to feel stress-free.
9. Make time for yourself
Often it has been seen that while rushing in your life you lose your mental and physical wellness. Allocate some time for yourself in a day, spend time with exclusively yourself. As it is necessary to eat healthily and live a healthy lifestyle, staying mentally fit is also very much important. Do something that you love, only to feel good. Make self-care on your priority list, love yourself as much as you can.
