Wrapping up year 2020: The year of Pandemic

Wrapping up the year 2020

We finally stepped into December, the last month of the year 2020 (a year to be remembered in history). I was thinking about the entire year, how it started, what we planned and how it went. And I felt I should jot it down and here wrapping up year 2020 in this post. The year 2020 had shown us the various colors of life. This year had set the perfect example of unpredictability. In a brief 2020 is a year of uncertainty.

As the universe was excited to welcome 2020, this deadly virus then affected though few parts. I being over optimist thought everything we will be fine, and I was planning about new year and many more other plans were there in the queue. But who knows what is their in the destiny and everything changed. I guess time was smiling at me when I was planning for 2020. The year 2020 was a whirlwind for me so many things had happened. Though this year gave me a chance to fulfill few of our dreams, at the same time I have seen my loved one suffering from COVID-19. So let’s wrap it up.

January

With great enthusiasm and zeal started the 1st day of new year. Good food plays a very vital part of any celebration for us. So we went out to feast and wished our dear and near ones happy and prosperous new year (Now I am writing and giggling about thinking those messages for the new year). We had splendid plans for the year ahead. You can read them in this blog. So let’s move to next month.

February

COVID-19 was coming in news by this time, still everything was normal and we were at our comfort. We were so much busy in our lives that never thought it will spread so rapidly. February started with a bang, I had an alumni meet with my college friends. We met each other after a decade. Thankfully, we planned our meet earlier this year, otherwise it would have remained as plan only. The February days were the merry days for me after meeting with my college friends, my parents visited us. My parents use to visit us every year this time, and I keep counting the days for their arrival. End of February was also the end of an academic session of pre-primary for my little girl, and next month she will start her primary classes. In short February went very well, so let’s go to next month.

March

Now by this time getting much news of COVID-19. Everything was going normal during first 2 weeks of March, my parents went back to their place on 15th of March. Every day there were rising of cases, so all schools shut down. And government declared lockdown. Still I had a hope that everything will be fine after this month. During initial days of lockdown, I was feeling relaxed as there was no hurry for early morning routine and still planning for some occasions that you will get to know, so let’s move to April.

Looking back the year 2020

April

During April we usually visit my parent’s and in-laws’ houses as my daughter has summer vacation so we had a long vacation to enjoy with our relatives. We had our flight tickets booked long ago, when there was no scene of Corona virus. Who knows that destiny had planned something else for us. Government had extended the lockdown period, and our summer trip canceled. This was the first planned canceled in this year. I didn’t lose my hope; I was still thinking it will over next month and I can reschedule my flight tickets. Poor me!!. Not that much poor, as April gave us a day to celebrate. April is my hubby’s birthday month, and I wanted to make it special for him and prepared a variety of dishes for him. These celebrations at home with our families make us feel so blissful.

May

Third month of lockdown in India. News feeds are full of gloomy and depressing news from every part of the world because of this pandemic. And 3 months doing all the household chores without helper, as no one is allowed to go out without any urgent need. Everyone was passing through a rough time. May is the month of my dad’s birthday and we planned to celebrate it as we were supposed to visit them if things were normal. But that was the 2nd plan canceled, anyway we were thankful that everyone was healthy in our family.

June

This month was really special for me. This year we were having our 10th year of marriage. And we made so many plans to celebrate it and make it memorable. But this was the third plan canceled in this year. Though we tried our best to make it special in our own ways and I am sure it will be a memorable anniversary celebration specially during a pandemic.

There is one more celebration in June in our family, our little girl’s birthday. Initially, she was a little sad as there was no birthday party, no friends. Then we make her understood that we all are healthy and together to celebrate her birthday and that is the main reason one should be happy for. Little ones are very innocent, it depends upon us how we mould them and the next moment she was twinkling and excited to cut her cake. And we were lucky enough to get a home baked cake from one my sweet friend.

July

There is rainbow after each storm, and here my rainbow was my blog : TheMommysCorner. One good thing of extended lockdown. I realized I was getting enough time during evenings, and I totally indulged myself on Netflix. It was boring too, and I was craving for the simple life we used to have earlier. I was so sentimental that wrote my feelings and that was the catalyst to launch my own blog. That small write-up ignites my very old wish to have my own website where I can write my heart and here it is. So I will say July was wonderful, though cases for COVID-19 were rising each day.

Remembering the good old days when we used to travel, so my first post was on travelling.

August

Month of August went well. I was too much involved in my blog and routine household chores and felt much relaxed because I was less aware of Corona virus chaos. And there was friendship day too in August. So I had a small meet up with some of my close friends and really we laughed a lot on that day after so many months followed by a delicious lunch. We met each other after a long time. Hence August went quite well.

September

This year was a roller coaster drive for everyone, I guess. All were dealing with something or other. Last two months went pretty well, but September was not too good. One morning my husband got mild fever, and he went for COVID-19 test. And test result was positive, and it was the saddest moment of this year. But you know when you go through a tough situation, almighty gives you extra strength and power to face that. He spent his quarantine days and followed all the necessary steps to take care of him and ourselves. By God’s grace, he is doing well.

October

This year Dussehera was in the month of October. It is one of the biggest festival of India. But this year everything was different, we didn’t go out for celebration because all the rituals of festival were virtual. Being a Bengali, durga puja is an emotion for me and we celebrated it in our home in the best possible way. Let’s hope next year we can celebrate it with healthy and peaceful way.

November

I must say the year 2020 is indeed a different one, we discovered various flavors of life in this single year. November was a month to celebrate because we bought a new car which we were planning since long time. It was a big reason to cheer on November and many more months coming. As we will plan some road trips too in near future. Though it is sad to adieu our old car, so many memories are there with it, but life must move on and make some more memories. And let’s go to December.

December

I am very much happy when we stepped into December. There are few reasons behind it.

  • I was very much eager for wrapping up the year 2020
  • It is my birthday month
  • I can’t wait to welcome 2021 as I believe it will be an end to all the sorrows and bring positivity in everyone’s life.

December is going fine, I can say the first week of December was fabulous. I spent my birthday very well in one word it was awesome. My cute little daughter made a cute rainbow card for me. I am really very thankful to God that I got such a loving family, relatives and friends.

2020 in review

Conclusion

Yay !! Finally we are at the end of 2020. The year of surprises, some things were unfortunate but there were good things too. I have learnt so many things in this year. We should always live in the present and enjoy the moment. It is always good to plan for future but don’t forget the present moment. Be thankful for what you have, always embrace gratitude. And the most important thing is everything will pass, it is just matter of time and how we deal the situation.

This post was my looking back and wrapping up the year 2020. I am sure everyone had their own stories in 2020. Please feel free to share, I would love to read and this sharing will motivate each other.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience through this year! We have all had to deal with such unpredictability and delayed many things that were planned. I would agree we are all ready for 2020 to end!

Great post! I can’t believe the year is coming to an end… but I’m glad. Time to reflect properly, and start fresh and positively.
